Our Park Days are open to anyone who wishes to come! Field trips, co-op groups, group events, Tweens-n-Teens, and the email list, however, are reserved for VHE members who have signed our VHE Member Code.
If you wish to become a member, please read over the VHE Code. If you agree with what it says, then please come and visit one of our Park Days and meet us! If, after meeting us, you find we are a good match for your family, we invite you to join the VHE group, and you will be asked to sign a hard copy of the Code. Briefly, the Code covers 4 main points:
* Code of Conduct & Dress: outlines guidelines for dress and conduct during group events. If these guidelines and standards sound good to you, then we will probably be a good match for your family.
* Membership clause: reviews requested monetary donation (and exceptions) and member participation in the group. (This is more fully explained below.)
* Privacy clause: ensures that personal information will not be shared outside the group, and the email list and personal information will not be used for purposes of recruitment, solicitation, or advertisement.
* Hold Harmless clause: addresses personal responsibility and group liability.
Once you have signed the VHE Code, you will be invited to join our email list at Yahoo. We maintain email lists for VHE and for Tweens-n-Teens at Yahoo groups to announce group events and functions, a group calendar, and group files and databases. The VHE and the TnT-VHE Yahoo groups are for active members ONLY, who have signed the VHE Code. This means that we want you to meet us and decide that our group is a good match for your family before becoming an official VHE member. Please be assured that this is merely to protect the privacy of our current membership, as we post sensitive information on our list.
As a cooperative group, VHE relies on member participation. While we do not police or track each person’s contribution, we do respectfully request that our adult members be aware of what they can contribute to the group, from teaching a session of a co-op class, to signing up for cleanup duty after a party, to contributing ideas for field trips, etc.
We request a $20 membership donation at the beginning of the year to build a group fund. This is merely the simplest way to collect a little money for a group fund, used for juice boxes and paper goods for parties, supplies for group art projects, room rentals, etc. After January the contribution is prorated to $10. We do assume that most members will donate, but we all understand that there will be some who cannot make the donation. We NEVER want money to stand in the way of someone joining VHE, which is why this is requested as a donation; it is NOT required of anyone for whom it would be a hardship. If it is a hardship for your family please discuss it privately with the VHE Facilitator and your membership will be approved without the donation. If you prefer to make two separate $10 donations, please just mention it to the VHE Facilitator.
If for some reason we don't see you or hear from you for half the year, we will contact you asking your intentions. If you are unable to remain active, or if we are unable to contact you for an extended period of time, we will delete you from the Yahoo group simply to clean up our list and your inbox, and to maintain our standards of privacy for active group members. ("An extended period of time" is somewhat subjective, and will be longer for someone who has been an active member for a couple of years than for someone who joined at the beginning of the year and never showed up again.)
Please understand, we don't ever want to remove someone who is planning on staying active in VHE! Anyone who is deleted from the list may REJOIN ANY TIME, provided she was a member in good standing before becoming inactive, so this is merely list cleanup and not kicking anyone out. So, for instance, if you are going on extended vacation or some other circumstance will prevent you from being active for many months, please just let us know.
The exception to this rule: a long-term member in good standing who moves away from the area and wants to remain in touch may remain onlist.
