Valley Home Educators

* Who We Are *

VHE is a cooperative homeschool group in Phoenix, Arizona. We are inclusive, respecting the needs of all our members. Though we all share the common ground of homeschooling, we believe our differences help us grow, so we offer support to all families regardless of religious belief or homeschooling philosophy. We do not consider ourselves, as a group, to be either secular or Christian, but rather inclusive, and we have members from varying faith backgrounds, Christian and other. In addition, our members run the gamut of educational methods from classical to unschooling, and everyone's style is respected.

We are open to homeschooled children of all ages (infants to teens) and try to present a variety of activities for everyone, including special activities for Tweens-n-Teens. We meet Fridays during the academic year, with two park days and two field trips or other events each month. Please come visit us one Park Day, and we'll get to know each other!

We currently have about 30 active families in VHE. We find this a comfortable size - large enough that when a couple of families are sick, there are still enough to have an outing, but small enough for all the parents to know each other and be comfortable.

As a cooperative group, our leadership consists of a facilitator and appointed advisory board; members are encouraged to help plan a variety of activities and fun, including field trips, park days, activities, and classes.

As public representatives of the homeschooling community, we try to be conscious of the image we present; consequently we have formulated the VHE Member Code. This is not in any way a statement of faith, but we have found that a careful review of this document helps potential members to decide if VHE will be a good match for their family, as it will give a very good idea of the group culture we currently have and are striving to maintain.

VHE exists to be a support for homeschooling families and a safe place for all members. Our Code also states that member information may not be used for purposes of solicitation, recruitment, or advertising outside businesses. Please do not join if that is your primary purpose. If members who are friends choose to invite each other to a sales party or such, that is their business, but anyone who abuses the confidentiality of the group by inappropriately using the Yahoo list or our personal database to advertise, solicit, or recruit within the membership will be removed from the Yahoo list and asked to leave the group.
